A long time ago in Japan there lived a travelling man who went from place to place with his monkey who could dance. Sometimes he played music or sang and the monkey danced along with the music. After he put on a show he got money from the people who watched. After a while the monkey got old and stiff, and he was no longer able to dance very well.

I am Mercy Gawason, and I am a Subanen woman. I am 26 years old, and I work in the Subanen Craft Center in Ozamis City, the Philippines. I met Columban Fr. Vincent Busch in 2004, and he taught me the art of making Mandalas and wooden beads. In 2007 we began making Christmas cards at the Center, and I am now in charge of mailing, packing and sending the Christmas cards we make.

Peru opened its arms to me in the first days of September 1978. That meant learning the language, and the language school was in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Cochabamba was a beautiful place, and I finished an intense language course there.
