Today, we are thrilled to go with Mary Magdalen
as she finds her crucified Master now risen from the tomb
where she had expected Him to stay.

With the Apostles we are amazed as our risen Lord
takes food again in His pierced hands, filling us
with peace as He sends us out to tell all the world
about His mission of mercy from the Fathers.

Lord, Your rising from the dead
increases my faith, hope and love.
May my belief in Your resurrection
change my attitude and behavior toward others.
Through Your Son, Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Amen.

O Jesus, who by reason of Your burning love for us
has willed to be crucified and to shed
Your Most Precious Blood for the redemption
and salvation of our souls,
look down upon in remembrance
of Your most sorrowful Passion and Death,
fully trusting in Your mercy;
cleanse us from sin by Your grace,
sanctify our toil, give us and all those

After a poem by the Koryo monk Ch’ungji

Seventy years have passed;
now all is consummated.
The road home is smooth;
there will be no more pain.
Your faith and the love of your friends
is all you carry, but it is enough.
For our part memory assuages,
a medicament that cannot be bought

Fr. George Hogarty with the parishioners of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I first considered becoming a priest when I was seven years old. Mysteriously enough I still remember that strong feeling of being called by God. In high school I thought in great depth about that call. If I were to become a priest what kind of priest would I become?

Father, Your Son chose Your will for Him
over His own desires.
Help us to remember Christ’s example,
and give us the strength to do Your will,
even when it seems difficult.
You are always with us,
especially in our times of need.
We are thankful for Your blessings every day.

Amen.

Loving Father,
I stand before You in the midst of confusion and complexities of life.
My future sometimes seems distant and unknown.
Give me, O Lord, the vision to see the path You set before me.
Grant me the courage to follow Your way,
that through the gifts and talents You have given me,
I may bring Your life and Your love to others.

Take away all fear from my life
and give me a strong faith like Abraham,
our father in faith.
As I celebrate this Eucharist
I wait in joyful hope for the return of the Master.

Give me all I need each day:
do not put me to the test.

Help me to recognize that nothing in life
is more important than preparation for the final encounter.

Fr. Dermot, 2021

“Ever seen a mushroom grow? asked our gardener one morning in the grounds of the Columban Center House in Peru, as he pointed out to some of us a particularly fine example. “Sprouts up overnight. Incredible.” “Hmmm, just like Lima,” observed Fr. Dermot Carthy. He should know.
